The Eighth Annual Gabriola Theatre Festival will have it all this August on beautiful Gabriola Island! Eight exciting main stage productions. A FREE Outdoor Performance Stage. The Gabriola Theatre Festival has made a name for itself in the Canadian theatre scene, attracting world-class productions to this little island on the west coast. Why might this be? For one, Gabriola Island has the sixth highest concentration of artists in the workforce in Canada (Hill Strategies Report, 2011). With an island full of artists comes appreciation for art in all its forms! Theatre practitioners are warmly welcomed to the beautiful Isle of the Arts, performing to knowledgeable and enthusiastic audiences, visiting local beaches and businesses, and enjoying the Gulf Island vibe. Some have even come back five years in a row!
Come up to Gabriola Island for this super, sunny weekend! Join us from August 18 to 21 for one of the best summer festivals around.
We’re excited to announce that ticket sales are flying by and Pete Seeger’s The Incompleat Folksinger is the first to sell out! Email us if you’d like to add your name to the waitlist, and get your tickets for the other shows before they’re gone!
This is a first ever! Improv on the Gabriola Theatre Festival mainstage! And not just any improv! Paper Street Theatre Co.‘s wonderful and talented crew bringing to us “The Handmade Tale: An Improvised Margaret Atwood”! Improv has the potential to inspire, engage, and be absolutely unforgettable. Don’t miss it!
“… poetic, lyrical, haunting, frightening … created a dystopian world so possible as to be chilling in its verisimilitude. The moody and atmospheric improvised design was the ᴀnal crowning touch—costumes, props, lighting, and sound—perfection.” —Janis Lacouvée
In a dystopian future, Paper Street’s improvisers struggle with gender politics and identity—and to stay alive. Inspired by the works of Margaret Atwood, this show captures her stark prose, futuristic vision, and the dark—often humorous—undercurrent that runs through her work. If you’ve ever loved a book by Atwood, this is show you cannot miss.
There’s lots of buzz around the theatre festival this year and tickets are selling fast. Could it be the best lineup yet? We’ve got some of everything, brought to you by eight talented BC theatre companies. The biggest complaint we’ve heard is that people can’t choose which shows to go to. We don’t understand. Just make it your biggest theatre weekend and buy two passes that get you in to all the shows, while saving $30. Good shows, good people, good cause, good community, good vibes: a great place to be August 18-21.
PLEASE NOTE: SATURDAY IS FULL. SUNDAY STILL HAS ROOM. If you’d like to be a part of Saturday, you can add yourself to the waitlist below.
The Gabriola Arts Council is inviting vendors and exhibitors of all kinds to participate in the two-day Street Art (Saturday) and Street Fair (Sunday) on Lockinvar Lane during the 2016 Gabriola Theatre Festival, August 20 and 21, 2016.
We’re excited to tell you about the lineup for the 2016 Gabriola Theatre Festival! That’s why we have organized a big Gabriola Theatre Festival brochure launch on June 4th at the Phoenix Auditorium.
